Public Seminar - AI and cybersecurity: an ally for protection or a weapon for cybercriminals?

Add to calendar:

Artificial intelligence is revolutionising cybersecurity... but in the hands of cybercriminals, it is becoming a formidable weapon. Today, AI is used both to strengthen security and to circumvent defences and manipulate individuals. Sentimental scams, identity theft, false information... how do these threats spread, and above all, how can you protect yourself against them?

Using concrete, accessible examples, this seminar will plunge you into today's cybersecurity challenges. You will discover how cybercriminals are exploiting AI to perfect their techniques, and what strategies to adopt to avoid falling into their traps.

For example, fraudsters used AI to manipulate a French woman into believing she was in a relationship with Brad Pitt, bilking her out of more than 830,000 euros. Similarly, during Hurricane Helene, deepfakes were broadcast to propagate false disaster scenes, sowing panic on social networks.

These cases illustrate a worrying reality: AI can no longer simply imitate humans, it can also deceive, manipulate and exploit our emotions. But there are solutions to these threats. This seminar will give you the keys to detecting scams, avoiding pitfalls and adopting safer digital practices.

Whether you're curious or concerned about your online security, this event is the perfect opportunity to understand how AI is changing the game and how to protect yourself effectively in a rapidly changing digital world.

Agenda

  • 17:10 : Reception of Attendees
  • 17:20 : Welcome
  • 17:30 : Candid Wüest - Security Advocate @Xorlab -   Deepfakes Unmasked
    • Advancements in AI-generated deepfakes have unlocked new and dangerous possibilities for cybercriminals and fraudsters. From hyper-realistic business email compromise (BEC) scams using fake video calls to AI-driven disinformation campaigns, deepfakes are being weaponized to manipulate trust, deceive individuals, and undermine institutions. Even biometric authentication systems—once considered highly secure—are now at risk of being bypassed by sophisticated synthetic media. This talk will explore the current threats posed by deepfake technology, real-world cases of deepfake-driven cybercrime, and practical strategies for detection and defense in an era where seeing is no longer believing.
  • 18:15 : Tobias Kull - Director Business Unit Cybersecurity - Cybersécurité pour l'IA vs. IA pour la cybersécurité
  • 19:00 : Aperitive and Networking
